Short Description of the Area: The city of Twentynine Palms and nearby communities are located south of post; not much except desert is on the north side. Twentynine Palms is in the Mojave Desert region of Southern California, just north of the Joshua Tree National Park and northeast of the San Bernardino National Forest. This leaves a narrow corridor for driving through to the bigger communities of Palm Springs, about 1 hour away, and San Bernardino, about 2.5 hours away. Twentynine Palms is about 180 miles north of San Diego and 140 miles due west of Los Angeles.
